TOM CURR CUNARD WHITE STAR TO EUROPE VIA NORTH AMERICA.

As the 81 ton Queen Mary is escorted out of New York harbor, steaming past the city's famous skyline, a young woman is waving farewell. She could either be on the docks along Manhattan's west side or on the deck of the ship. In 1934, after the Great Depression had affected transatlantic travel and all but halted ship production in Great Britain, Cunard and White Star merged to form Cunard White Star Line. This merger allowed for the completion of The Queen Mary, one of the most famous ocean liners to date, which would run the Southampton - New York route until 1967, when she was turned into a museum.
