Purvis' work for the British Railroads was exclusively for the LNER. His posters ran the gamut from traditional landscapes to bright, almost electric colors to the simple, powerful graphics (like this poster) for which he is most appreciated and best remembered. In the style of the Beggarstaff Brothers "he formed his figures solely from masses of color, without outline" (Weill p. 228). Voyage p. 45.
