TOM PURVIS TRAVEL BY IMPERIAL AIRWAYS. 1935.
30x20 inches. Hudson & Kearns, London.
Condition B+: creases in margins and image. Paper.
A calendar for the airline that merged with British Airways in 1939 to form the B.O.A.C. company. The image is one of stylish luxury, with the hustle and bustle of a recently landed plane (a Handley Page HP-42. In fact, from the call numbers, this plane is actually the Heracles) Elegant passengers are disembarking, with the help of porters, and mechanics are meeting with crew members around the plane's wheels. Purvis' elegant Art Deco style lends itself perfectly to the image the airline is trying to convey. He also designed other posters for the arline.
