Purvis' work for the British Railroads was exclusively for the LNER. His posters run the gamut from traditional landscapes to people engaged in a variety of activities (primarily involving beach scenes). His designs are all notable for their simple, powerful graphics (like this poster). His use of "flat primary colors and the elimination of detail" (Railway p. 135) was his graphic calling card and what he is most appreciated and best remembered for. In the style of the Beggarstaff Brothers "he formed his figures solely from masses of color, without outline" (Weill p. 228).
