Feiffer commentary: This was a gift from Tony Auth and his wife Eliza on my second marriage. You can't say Tony Auth without saying "Sweetheart". He was wonderful and easygoing, but tough minded and we immediately connected. Tony was a no-nonsense, New Dealish, Frank Capra kind of cartoonist. Five times a week for over 40 years, he clocked in on the editorial page of The Philadelphia Inquirer with his unique brand of wit and integrity, served up with an almost martini-like dryness, cooly stirred with iconoclasm and truth. He emitted a kind of good-natured intelligence and incisiveness, but there never was a mean bone in his mind. He drew this wonderful version of my dancer. I love that it captures the energy and feeling of my original dancer.
