TONY KING
101 Wooster #2.

Oil and screenprint on canvas, 1979. 965x1320 mm; 38x52 inches. Signed, titled, inscribed and dated "Q2-79" in felt-tip pen and ink, verso.

Provenance: Private collection, New York.

The subject of the current work, a cast-iron façade on Wooster Street, was located in the New York art district in SoHo, where King (born 1944) exhibited his works since the 1970s. King's early oil and acrylic geometric abstractions gave way to more experimentation in the 1970s and 1980s, when he began to use different media in his works, including collage and emulsion. In the mid-1980s, King switched his focus to landscape paintings, before revisiting geometric abstractions in recent years.
