"The Garden of Eden." From The Apple Tree.

Group of 9 scenic designs mounted on four sheets. Nature scenes for the 1966 musical produced by Stuart Ostrow and directed by Mike Nichols at the Shubert Theatre. Three sheets contain two illustrations; a final, oblong sheet contains three. Pen and ink on paper. Images vary in size from 160x101 mm; 6 1/4x4 inches to 90x315 mm; 3x12 1/2 inches. Initialed "T.W." Glued down in corners to window mattes.

Provenance: Collection of Stuart Ostrow.

The Apple Tree ran for 13 months, with 463 performances. It earned several Tony Award nominations, winning Barbara Harris that of Best Actress in a Musical for 1967. For Walton, it cemented his reputation as a master production and costume designer.
