Second edition of a work first published in 1549; with catchword "enoughe" on A1v. This was the first book in English devoted exclusively to Italy, containing a general description of the country, the history of the principal states, and an account of Thomas's 1544-49 stay there. Thomas was executed for treason in 1554, and his History is said to have been condemned and publicly burnt after his death. Pine-Coffin 544; STC 24019.
