Additional Details

William Wingate Sewall and Wilmot Dow acted as hunting guides for Teddy Roosevelt on his trip to Maine in the late 1870s and became close friends with Roosevelt. Through their friendship, Sewall and Dow managed Roosevelt's Elkhorn Ranch in the Badlands of North Dakota between 1884-87, likely where this photograph was taken.
