TRUMBULL, JOHN. Autograph Letter Signed, in the third person, to Lord Sidmouth, and an Autograph draft of notes concerning a conversation with him. The ALS requests a meeting with Sidmouth; the page of notes concerning the War of 1812 is written on verso of a note from Sidmouth granting the meeting. The two tipped together at an early date. Format varies. London, June 1813

The notes (presumably part of a larger draft of a letter written by Trumbull after the meeting with Sidmouth) are quite interesting, beginning "conversation turned on the destruction of small towns on the Chesapeake. I expressed my high satisfaction that the officers & troops in Canada, instead of retaliating the threats . . . [they] had conducted the war with humanity & restrained the savages in a great degree from their usual habits of indiscriminate destruction & burning . . ."
