Additional Details

"The object of my writing this note is that I want you to do some business for me while it is very urgent. I wrote to Mrs. Titus [Frances Titus, wife of Battle Creek miller Richard Titus, was Sojourner's friend, biographer, traveling companion, sponsor, and lecture manager] to have her do it for me, but find she has gone, and I know of no one that would better understand my situation than you. . . .I have had poor success in holding meetings. . ." and she explains that she has used up all of her money, and is in debt for room and board. She asks that Dr. Bartlett get $50 against a piece of property she owns in Battle Creek, and adds in a PS: "You may get sixty dollars instead of fifty as I first stated, and let my daughter have ten dollars. Elizabeth Boyd is her name she lives in Canady, near the Advent Church. I don't exactly understand how this is done, but if there is a possible way for me to get the money and get it here, please do so and if not please answer and let me know, Sojourner Truth."
