first edition of the author's first book, warmly inscribed by him in the year of publication. The inscription reads: "May 1971 / To Syd and Louisa Pinney / the Simon and L[illegible] Pennyfeather of this book - two / wonderful friends whose / humor and courage over / thirty-five years have set me / an admirable example - / With love and affection / Thomas Tryon." Accompanying the copy are two letters of correspondence between Tryon and the Pinneys, including an ALS wherein Tryon provides the couple with a pre-publication copy of the book and wishes them a "Merry Christmas and a great 1970." Also included is a 3 1/2 inch square photo of Tryon sitting with legs crossed reading a copy of The Other.
