Tyng (1839-98) was only 15 years old when he edited this little newspaper, having been moved by the question of slavery and it expansion by the proposed Nebraska Bill. Tyng later attended Williams College and was ordained in 1861. He served as chaplain for the 12 New York Volunteers from 1864.
