(TYPOGRAPHY.) Group of five albums of Art Deco alphabets and numerals, all hand-colored calligraphed designs on 259 leaves. Oblong 4to, two hand-bound in linen, two in cloth, and one in wrappers, scattered foxing and wear; sheets measure 203x280 mm; 8x11 inches, printed on rectos only, with hand-numbering in upper right hand corners: two albums are consecutively numbered 1-68 and 69-126, a third is numbered 185-214; some offsetting on versos, scattered fingersoiling to some margins, a few pastedowns contain stamps of Parisian art and stationery suppliers; the album in wrappers has several sheets of onion skin with pencil tracings of the designs and a few notations in French as well as a few marginal notes throughout, a few leaves with background shades but no studies indicate unfinished designs. should be seen. A fabulous collection of typography studies, including upper and lower case alphabets and 22 leaves of numerals. The designs contain combinations of bright color gouache and silver and gold paint on heavy stock. They were likely sample books for a graphic design studio, advertising, or sign company.
