Tanning, Dorothea (1910-2012)
Autograph Letter Signed with Collage Elements.

21 February 1948.

To art patrons and collectors Rebecca (1896-1988) and Bernard Reis (1895-1978), single sheet of pale blue-flecked wove writing paper embellished with a clipping on pink paper of a 19th century gent with his penny-farthing bicycle which Tanning has trimmed and pasted at an angle with a diagram made up of concentric circles over the bike's big wheel; inscribed on both sides and written in slightly smudged blue ink; telling of illnesses and travels affecting the writer and her husband, Max Ernst, their recent arduous return home to Arizona; mentioning a dinner party and another illness, along with visits from artists, including Jeanne Reynal and Urban Neininger, and an upcoming visit from Man Ray; Tanning also says that she's been sewing herself a leather jacket, noting, "it's more like ship-building than sewing"; with old folds, full transcript available up on request; 10 1/2 x 7 1/4 in.
