" Having this chance I want to thank all those who congratulated Andrian and I on our marriage". After Valentina’s triumph in Vostok 6, it was teasingly suggested that she should marry bachelor cosmonaut Andrian Nikolayev. Eventually the joke reached Khrushchev who took it seriously as a propaganda opportunity and began applying pressure through Kamanin for the couple to marry, although they were nothing more than colleagues. The marriage ceremony took place on November 3, 1963, at the Moscow Wedding Palace with Khrushchev presiding. The relationship fell apart shortly after the birth of their daughter and the two cosmonauts were later divorced.
