Additional Details

The Lady's Magazine contains riddles, short fiction, local and international news, poetry, recipes, notes on the behavior of women, marriage, lists of births, deaths, and marriages, and in this year, one hand-colored embroidery pattern. Satire is also present, and commentary that refers to trends in clothing, hair style, and personal adornment. A recipe for "a most excellent face wash" is simply plain water in a bowl applied with "a clean linen cloth." Another interesting piece refers to "the rage of plaistering little bits of black silk upon the human face."
