An India Proof, the proof on a captioned publisher's mount, 161/2x191/2 inches; some repaired damage along the left side of the Proof, with some disruption of the neat lines, minor dampstaining on the mount around the caption; matted and framed. Robert Jefferson Breckenridge was a lawyer, politician, and minister. He was an outspoken advocate of emancipation in the pro-slavery state of Maryland and openly defended the Black community there. The print was copyrighted under the name of Reverend Daniel A. Payne, later bishop of the A.M.E. and a president of Wilberforce University.
