Additional Details

A rare and elaborately engraved representation of the Thirteenth Amendment, with the facsimile signatures of all the votes in the House of Representatives and the Senate; surrounded by a finely engraved border with two large engraved vignettes at the top. There are two small vignette engravings in the bottom corners, and two small engraved captions in the center of the right and left borders: "The Scripture Fulfilled. Woe has Come upon Those by Whom the Offense of Slavery Came," and "Slavery's Chains are Broken, the Bondsman is Free." Beneath the plate there is a copyright notice for Judson Holcomb, "Western District of Pennsylvania." (Holcomb was a Republican judge in Bradford County, Pennsylvania.) We could find no copies of this piece at the Library of Congress or OCLC.
