First edition, two folio volumes, title pages printed in red and black, folding frontispiece in first volume; bound in uniform contemporary full sheepskin with gilt-tooled spines, surface rubbing, losses at heads and tails, joints cracked, ex library Crozer Theological Seminary at Bucknell Library, with bookplates and some blind stamps, 15 1/4 x 9 1/2 in. Tschudi's history of the Swiss Confederation is known in English as the Swiss Chronicle. It contains fifty important historical documents that have not survived in any other form and is the most important source work for the story of the Swiss folk hero William Tell, the very source used by Schiller when writing his play.
