A brilliant marriage of Tàpies's modern abstractions with Lull's 14th-century visionary mysticism. Tàpies was an artist who had a natural affinity for books and was a prodigious book collector. He "tranferred his passion for fine old books into creating his own . . . aware of the many forms books have taken, Tàpies has worked against the norm, making his books closely resontate to the forms of painting"--Castleman page 75.
