Additional Details

The result of the election crisis of 1800 in which Jefferson and Burr received the same number of votes in the electoral college, the twelfth amendment changed the system so that members of the college voted for President and Vice President separately. The present printing of the amendment is from the Senate, prior to the proposed amendment's passage in the House and before the final version printed after ratification. Shaw and Shoemaker 5281.
