An aviator in a Farman biplane is dropping a wreath atop the National Independence Monument in The Hague. As the Dutch Army Aviation Department was founded in March of 1913, one can see in this allegorical image the future of the Netherlands, complete with modern technology and military prowess, paying homage to the country's past.
