VANESSA BEECROFT
VB 1,1996, Deitch Projects, New York (Woman's Face).

Chromogenic print on Kodak Professional paper, 1996. 730x1036 mm; 28 3/4x40 3/4 inches (sheet), full margins.

A detail from Beecroft's January 6-27, 1996, half hour performance piece, VB16 Piano Americano-Beige, featuring two women in beige trench coats facing the camera and a group of women in beige underwear and one in a green party dress, behind them, at Deitch Projects, New York. According to the Deitch Projects Exhibition Archive , Deitch invited Beecroft (born 1969) to the opening of his new gallery on Grand Street in New York, and she composed the performance around the concept of nudity, using a Juergen Teller photograph of a model "wearing sheer Agent Provocateur underwear, Chanel slippers, and a green dress like a lettuce" as one of her inspirations.
