VASSILLI ZAVARICHINE. 1882.

55 1/2x26 1/2 inches. Affiches Nicolitch, Marseille.
Condition B+: minor waterstains in margins; wrinkles in image; faded. Paper.
One of the risque variety acts so popular in turn-of-the-century Paris, Vassilli Zavarichine was a Russian dancer and an "imitator of ladies" who danced on pointe, wearing gorgeous beaded costumes. Here, we see this "force of enchantment" in a beautiful, pearl-drenched costume, with his face elaborately made up, back-lit by blue and red spotlights; lettering in orange.
