Additional Details

After the crops failed in the summer of 1911 for peasants living near the Ural mountains and Volga river, famine and disease affecting many thousands of Russians spurred the formation in the UK and elsewhere of charities to deliver aid. One such organization was the Russian Famine Relief Fund, for which Vaughan Williams served as treasurer in 1912.
