first edition of a suite of dramatic aquatints inspired by Verri's popular 1780 novel about the Greek poet Sappho's legendary tragic infatuation with Phaon. Tresham (1751-1814) was an Irish painter and art dealer who worked in Rome during the 1770s-80s and was elected to the Royal Academy following his return to England.
