Additional Details

Scarce second edition of Vesalius's landmark treatise on human anatomy, containing 4 woodcuts of the skull on pages 130-32 in Volume 1 but otherwise unillustrated. "Jean de Tournes was partial to pocket editions, and probably felt he could capitalize upon the fame of the Fabrica with this unauthorized edition, even though he could not reproduce the woodcuts in this very small format. Without the illustrations the work would have had very limited usefulness"--Norman 4578. Adams V604; Cushing VI.A.-2; Durling 4578.
