VICTOR BEALS IT'S GAYER IN HAVANA / AT THE HOTEL NACIONAL DE CUBA. Circa 1950. 181/2x121/2 inches. Condition B+: creases and wrinkles in image. Designed by the famed architectural firm of McKim, Mead and White, Cuba's most famous hotel opened at the end of 1930. Temporary home to dignitaries and royalty (from Europe and Hollywood), the hotel occupies a mythical place in the romance of pre-Castro Cuba. Beals designed travel posters for clients such as Italian Line and Cunard, as well as posters for the Santa Fe Railway. This is his only known poster advertising Cuba.
