VICTOR BRAUNER
Brunidor 2.

Etching and aquatint diptych with hand coloring in watercolor, 1947. 168x127 mm; 6 5/8x4 7/8 inches, full margins. Signed, dated and numbered 57/110 in pencil, lower left. From the same-titled portfolio. A very good impression.

Brauner (1903-1966) was a French Romanian painter and sculptor closely-tied to Surrealism. He studied in Bucharest early on and in the mid-1920s moved to Paris. He met and was mentored by the fellow-Romanian artist Constantin Brancusi, who also introduced him to Yves Tanguy. Through Tanguy, Brauner became associated with the Surrealist movement and became a contributor to the magazine unu, an avant-garde publication which had Dadaist and Surrealist leanings. In 1934, Brauner had his first Parisian solo exhibition.
