Rotter began his career with a degree in electro-engineering, and shortly thereafter moved to Paris. There, he took up commercial design, working as a decorator in the famous Printemps department store and as a graphic designer with the well-known Damour company. From 1928 to 1939, he ran his own eponymous advertising studio in Prague from which he turned out impressive Art Deco-inspired designs. His work could be seen in magazines, sheet music and posters advertising clothing, travel, events, exhibitions, movies and performances (including a lot of work for the famous Czech comedic duo Voskovec and Werich). Rotter fled Czechoslovakia for England during World War II, where he remained for the rest of his life. Freidlandrova was a prominent sportswoman and exercise enthusiast who led rhythmic gymnastic classes for children, adults and groups.
