This colorful but poignant scene is an excellent example of an early painting by Vincent Smith. Smith began to add sand and then collage in his paintings in the late 1960s. Larcada Gallery began to represent Vincent Smith in 1967 with a solo exhibition - the first of five solo exhibitions Smith had with Larcada through the 1970s.
