Large engraved chart of Florida, Mexico, Central America and the Caribbean on three sheets of joined laid paper. 20 3/4x29 1/4 inches sheet size, ample margins; original hand-color in outline; reinforced on verso with linen at an early date with pigments oxidizing through that backing, areas of verdigris cracking with occasional minute losses. "The map is a combination of a sea chart with many inland features, making a very pleasant image" (Burden). An attractive example of a great rarity depicting the southeast North American coastline and Caribbean. Burden cites only three known examples of this third state of the chart, with the existence of the first state only presumed as no example has been located. Vingboons' original manuscript draft of the map is in the collection of the Library of Congress. Burden 314.
