Additional Details

A detailed, slightly variant copy of Finlay's iconic cover for Lovecraft's famous work of supernatural fiction, featuring a montage of illustrations for Weird Tales magazine. The Outsider and Others was the first title by Arkham House, the publishing company founded by August Derleth and Donald Wandrei to gather and print the works of H.P. Lovecraft after his death in 1937. Having found no other house to publish the collection, they formed Arkham House, naming it after the fictional town Lovecraft often used in his stories. The initial run of 1,268 copies went out of print early in 1944 and has never been reprinted.

In this study, the main background is printed, but contains Finlay's hand-applied stars in the upper portion of the design and a few detailed ink accents in the image, specifically defining borders and in some small details such as the star on the side and in some of the facial details.
