An intriguing, Art Deco, almost dream-like rendition of a ship, a mosque and a palm tree. In 1863, in order to establish a line that could easily service the Moroccan coast, Nicolas Paquet formed a partnership with a group of local Moroccan shippers and began frequent trips between Morocco and Marseille. Despite treacherous sailing conditions, the line was a success, and the increase in passengers, as well as trade, helped to eventually double the size of the company. Although not in Orientalist this image seems based on a 1933 travel brochure by J. Tonelli, which features similar characteristics (see Orientalist p. 27).
