The Queen Anne Revival style structure, which originally served as home to the research team that went on to found the Scripps Institution of Oceanography, eventually became part of the elegant Hotel del Coronado situated on the nearby shore. It has also served as a headquarters for the Coronado and the San Diego Yacht Clubs. Since 1967 it has been a restaurant.
