In 1939 Anderson gave a memorable concert at the Lincoln Memorial, after being denied access to the Daughters of the American Revolution's performance hall. It was said that this concert sparked the Civil Rights Movement. TIME magazine honored Anderson on the 75th anniversary of her performance.
