Zürich, 16 March 1858

Additional Details

". . . Your last letter was forwarded to me here a few days ago from Paris, . . . and as I understand from it, . . . some money has again been deposited with you for me, I am impudent enough to request that you send this trifle to me here as well. Unfortunately, I can always use money! . . . .
"As our friend Liszt should by now already have arrived, please give him my most yearning greetings and tell him how much I envy you for having him there with you. Things with me are in too sad a state to tell much about them! So it should bolster me all the more to hear many gratifying things about him and his work . . . .
"I can only look to Him in my desire to in some measure express to you my gratitude for your great kindnesses. I appealed to you in His name, and hope that now He personally will repay you, which, unfortunately, is completely beyond my ability to do."
Does not appear in Letters of Richard Wagner, ed. Altmann, 1927.
