Berman was an avant-garde filmmaker, artist, and collagist, whose work was associated with the Beat Movement and the post-war California art scene. In addition to his influential work, he also had a minor role in "Easy Rider" (1969) and appears on the cover of the Beatles' "Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band" album.
