Additional Details

This is a particularly early example of original art for Disney's revival of ‘pie-eyed' Mickey Mouse merchandise, which had only recently proven commercially viable to the company.

Bank of America held a key, long-running role in Disney company history, having supplied the funds needed to finish Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, helping fund and maintaining a presence in Disneyland, and even serving as Walt Disney's personal bank.

Chet Marshall was a California-based commercial illustrator, who was one of a small number of artists who could effectively channel 1930s Disney character style. Around 1973 he was commissioned by the Disney Consumer Products to design a variety of posters and other merchandise based on 1930s cartoons. Sadly, his promising relationship with Disney would be cut short by his tragic passing in 1974. In 1993 Gladstone Comics honored Marshall by featuring his Mickey art based as the cover of Donald and Mickey #20 (November, 1993) .
