WALT DISNEY STUDIOS Donald Duck sequence of nine animation drawings for Grand Canyonscope. This is a sequence of nine skillfully rendered Donald Duck animation drawings for the Cinemascope short Grand Canyonscope, which was first released December 23rd, 1954 to accompany 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea. The drawings were executed in graphite on circa 1950s 16 field Disney studio animation paper (12 1/2x15 1/2 inches).
The matching shot starts 1 minute 25 seconds into the short, when Donald (acting the boorish tourist) spots a Native American doing a sand painting and says (as seen in these drawings) "Well, well-- a sand painting!" --then eagerly rushes over to snap a flash photo, and nearly interferes with the painting before Ranger Woodlore ushers him away.
It is very unusual for this many sequential production drawings from this era to have remained together, and it is a strong possibility that these were kept in sequence for instructional purposes at the studio (i.e. to demonstrate a walk cycle).
Condition: The drawings are lightly stapled to a backing board in two places at the top of the sheets; this does not significantly visual presentation and the staples can be easily removed if desired.
