This late work by Dexel is part of his post-war career when he returned to painting, primarily focusing on printed images using the silkscreen technique. Before World War II he was an instructor in commercial arts at the School of Arts and Crafts, Magdeburg, Germany. Unfortunately his art production halted in 1935 when he was removed from his teaching possion as part of the Nazi party's artistic and academic restrictions. Prior to 1935 Walter Dexel exhibited his works at the Der Sturm gallery in Berlin. Der Sturm closed in 1924, continuing on as a quarterly magazine publication until 1932.
