Hofmann studied at the Academy of Applied Arts in his native Vienna. He began his commercial career in the 1930s, and by the 1950s had achieved nationwide fame. Best known for his fetching images of women in bathing suits for Matzner, Kajak and Nivea, during the 1950s his colorful, cheerful posters were ubiquitous and were used to advertise the farmer's union, tourism and scores of other products including ski-wear. This design for a bicycle tour of Austria is one of Hofmann's more serious, graphic designs, but exhibits his familiar techniques of shading and composition. This is the version with text. Rare.
