WALTER L. GREENE (1870-1956)

ADIRONDACK MOUNTAINS / LAKE PLACID / NEW YORK CENTRAL LINES. 1930.

40¾x27 inches, 103½x68½ cm. Latham Litho & Ptg Co., Long Island City.
Condition B: repaired tears at top and bottom edges, some through central image; minor overpainting in border; creases and abrasions in text, margins and image.

With their route passing through one of the Northeast's most scenic areas, the New York Central Line chose to let Mother Nature be its spokesperson by showing the scenery its passengers could enjoy rather than the trains that would carry them. Walter Greene was the Art Director at General Electric from 1903-1940. He painted images for all of GE's calendars, and began painting for the New York Central Railroad in 1925 when he took over their calendar project.
