While studying at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts, Schofield made many trips to Bucks County, north of Philadelphia. In the years following his graduation he continued to visit the countryside there to develop his plein-air approach to landscape. By embracing the elements, Schofield brought his healthy and hearty temperment to the canvas. The results were atmospheric, impressionist landscapes filled with rich filtered light and brilliant sun.
