WALTER THOMAS (1894-1971)

WHITE STAR LINE / EUROOPPA - AMERIKKA. Circa 1920s.

40x25 inches, 101 1/2x63 1/2 cm. James Haworth & Bro. Ltd., London.
Condition A-: repaired tears and creases in margins; minor creases in image; discolored bands in upper image.

White Star Line built and operated three four-funnel vessels, the Titanic, the Olympic and the Britannic, of which only the Olympic continued to operate after World War I. Here, she is seen passing the Statue of Liberty as she enters New York Harbor. Most likely, this poster dates from the early part of the 1920s, as the United States began severely limiting the number of immigrants per year in 1924, forcing the cruise lines to begin focusing more on the tourist trade. Text at the bottom reads "Finnish Steamship Company Limited / Migrant and Overseas Department." This is the Finnish version. Rare.
