Additional Details

Bradford Washburn was an American explorer, mountaineer, photographer, and cartographer. His sublime photographs of mountain peaks and glaciers (primarily in Alaska) are admired both for their accomplished technical artistry and detailed topographic information. Washburn was a leading mountaineer from the 1920s-50s. He established the Boston Museum of Science, and created maps of many notable mountain ranges.

In 1940 (the date of this print), Washburn was the first to ascend Mount Bertha, which is located in the Fairweather Range, Saint Elias Mountains, Alaska.
