Additional Details

Before dying suddenly in 1757, VA planter Daniel Parke Custis had been married to Martha Dandridge (who became Mrs. Martha Washington in 1759); Custis had engaged two agents in Britain to handle affairs there, John Hanbury & Co. and Robert Cary & Co. Washington had exchanged letters with these agents between 1759 and 1761 while settling the estate of Custis.
