"Masquerade" (distortion). Ferrotyped silver print, sheet size 10x8 1/8 inches (25.4x20.6 cm.), with Weegee's title, in blue ink, on recto, and with his Photo-Representatives and Credit Photo by Weegee hand stamps, on verso. Circa 1950s

Additional Details

This later work is a departure from the gritty street scenes Weegee was known for in the 1930s and 40s. By affixing a kaleidoscope to the camera lens, he manipulated the reflections to distort his subjects into playful yet moderately sinister compositions. This surreal example captures a dizzying perspective of New York City nightlife in the 1950s.
