Formerly in the collection of Henry Rothman. A handwritten letter from Rothman, dated Jan. 21, 1977, accompanies the photograph and reads: "To whom it may concern: This [sic] to certify that the Weegee photograph "The Critic," 8x10 signed and inscribed to me dated 1976 is in error. It was given to me by Weegee in 1956. We were very old friends; in fact I arranged his first exhibition at the Photo League--Henry Rothman."
